Zach & Esther’s parents left their seats and walked to the stage. They gathered close to the Zach & Esther, placing arms around shoulders, grasping hands. Together they raised their voices, praying over their son and their daughter, covering them with words of truth as they prepared to enter marriage.
Moments of community are what weddings are all about: a commemoration and celebration of love with a audience of people who have walked alongside the newly named husband and wife: maybe apart, maybe together – but now forever united. A wedding is just the beginning of that celebration.
Zach & Esther’s community was evident on October 9, 2015. From the prayers of their parents to the laughter of nieces and nephews. To the embrace of siblings and the tears of big brothers. To the support of professors and mentors and the laughter of friendships extended.
And let’s not forget about the reception, featuring Christmas light strings, a smore’s bar, dancing, mason jars filled with coffee, and a smore’s bar (oh, did I already mention that?).
Thank you, Zach and Esther, for asking me to photograph your day. It was an honor to be a part of. May you be able to look at these photos in the years to come and remember the moments beyond the images.
